My favourite films
Here are some films I like in order of preference:
-
Robocop
I don't know why, but I love this film. Everything from the
stilted dialog to the over-the-top violence. Unfortunately
the only web link I could find for it is somewhat naff.
-
Gattaca
Gattaca is well crafted, well acted, and very thought provoking
film about what might (and probably will) happen in the future
as genetic manipulation becomes more and more widespread. The
letters of the title describe a short sequence of DNA (which
are normally represented by a string of the letters a,c,g, and
t).
- Michael Collins
A film about a man that anyone who has studied Irish history
will be familiar with. Starring Liam Neeson and directed by
Neil Jordan this is a powerful film that illuminates much of
the background to today's problems in Northern Ireland.
-
Trainspotting
Set in Edinburgh, where I went to university, this film is at
times funny, and at times disturbing. It tells the tale of
four somewhat disfunctional friends, three of them are junkies,
and the fourth is a violent psychopath. Starring Ewan McGregor
(who, more recently, played Obi Wan in Star Wars I) if you
haven't seen this film... go and get it now!
