Good old BBC... great site too, ideal source for general news.
C.N.N - http://www.cnn.com/
CNN has a great website, and up-to-date news, but they can occasionally be "selective" about their coverage. Personally, I don't trust them to be unbiased.

The Advice Guide - http://www.adviceguide.org.uk/
Great if you need advice about subjects ranging from accomodation to civil-rights.

Download.com - http://www.download.com/
If you must use Microsoft Windows, this is a good place to get software. It also serves as a good contrast between the Linux and Windows communities, if you compare it with Freshmeat.net. The vast majority of software on Freshmeat is completely free, and even includes source code. On Download.com everyone wants money for even the most trivial piece of crud. Rant over (for now).
